Petrie Island rescue dive hosted by Ottawa Drowning Prevention Coalition

The Ottawa Drowning Prevention Coalition and Councillor Mark Taylor, Chair of Community and Protective Services Committee, will host a rescue demonstration and photo opportunity to mark the beginning of the boating and swimming season.City lifeguards will perform a rescue dive to help educate residents about water safety. The Ottawa Fire Water Rescue Unit and the Ottawa Police Marine, Dive and Trail Unit will also be available.Date: Wednesday, May 16, 2012Time: 10:30 to 11 a.m.

727 Trim RoadRepresentatives from the coalition will be available for interview.Now in its 13th year, the Ottawa Drowning Prevention Coalition is committed to raising the awareness of water safety and drowning prevention for parents, caregivers, children and youth. Whether it is at the cottage, campsite or in the backyard pool, drowning can happen in a matter of seconds.The Ottawa Drowning Prevention Coalition is made up of representatives from the Canadian Red Cross, the Lifesaving Society, Ottawa Fire Services, Ottawa Paramedic Service, Ottawa Police Service, Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services and Ottawa Public Health. read more..
