kellie-the-vegetarian:findingthinagain:strongaly:sur-le-tas:tiffany-do:starvingforperfection123:I’m “good.”Seven more pounds til I am considered “perfect.”A million years til I consider myself perfect. What has the media done to girls? 128 pounds at 6 feet? Really?114lbs at my height lol hell naw. I’m good nowSTOP THIS MADNESS SHIT. THIS IS A SHIT CHART. Stop depriving yourself of food and health. The next time I see this chart again on my dash, I am going to print this chart, make my friend’s dog shit on it, and post a picture of it.Oh yes, because when I was unhappy with my body and thought I needed to lose weight, I was pretty good. When I was embarrassed to wear shorts and wouldn’t let my boyfriend touch my stomach, it’s okay, because I was good. Then when my body was shutting down, I was finally perfect. When I lost almost half of my hair, I sure was perfect. When I refused to eat with my boyfriend’s family, I was the hottest girl on earth. Man it felt so good to be perfect and to cry at the doctor’s office. It was the coolest thing ever to lie to everyone I loved and alienate friends because they worried about me. I just loved exhaustion and anxiety and being alone. It was so cool to never have fun. Just perfect, really. Perfect like the way I’d take my pulse before bed and wonder if I’d wake up the next morning. Perfect like secretly doing pushups in the bathroom because I’d eaten too many strawberries. Life is so perfect when you lose weight. Now my life is so bad because I’m not good or perfect anymore. I must totally suck because I make good grades and have friends. Life is just terrible because my boyfriend doesn’t get mad at me anymore for making a scene over food, and I go to family gatherings and talk to people instead of thinking about food and trying to not to have a panic attack. I’m just so miserable because I gained weight, not to mention ugly and incompetent. I mean, what does it matter that I play college soccer and lift heavy weights and have more love in my life than ever before? Life should be terrible because I’m not perfect, right?I mean it makes so much sense.AHHH ACJSNCOASO SO MUCH LOVE FOR THE ABOVE COMMENT ^Uhmmm. So you’ve all seen how thin my body naturally is… and I weight about 107lbs (at about 5’8”). Why EVER would a “perfect” weight for my height be any lower than that? If I can keep such a low weight because of a fast metabolism, how is someone with a slower metabolism going to get so low? Exactly. It’s not healthy if they can. This chart is ridiculous and I hope none of you think you have to follow it in order to have the perfect body. read more..

Garage sale season is underway as communities, neighbourhoods and families put tables of used items up for sale. Garage sales are a great place to find deals but please think twice and ask the right questions before making a purchase:— Helmets Ottawa Public Health recommends that you never buy one used because you can’t always see the damages a helmet has received. This means that you can’t be certain that it will provide you with the protection you need from a major impact. For tips to help you choose the right helmet and ensure a good fit visit: http://www.ottawa.ca/en/health_safety/living/injury/helmet/index.html
If you are planning to buy a helmet, you may want to consider buying one on June 2, 2012 when there will be discounts from twenty three retailers participating in Capital Velo fest! Participating retailers, location, as well as the discount being offered will all be made available at: www.AdoptAHelmet.com
- Car Seats must have a National Safety Mark or the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards label. Contact Transport Canada at 613-998-8616 to find out about recalls or public notices. A car seat is not safe for use after 10 years. Also, car seats bought in the United States do not meet Canadian Standards and are illegal for use in Canada.
- Corded Window Coverings can pose a threat to children because they can become strangled in the cords. Make sure all safety devices, warning labels, and instructions come with these items.- Strollers made before 1985 do not meet current safety regulations, as such should not be bought. Strollers must have clearly marked the manufacturer name, date and model to check for recalls. Wheels, brakes and locking mechanisms must be checked to ensure they’re in working order.
- Cribs made before 1986 do not meet current safety regulations, as such should not be bought. Check to make sure there is a label that shows the crib meets CSA standards. It is not recommended to use cribs that are older than 10 years because they are more likely to have parts that are broken, worn or missing. Be aware that you can bring home beg bugs if you buy used furniture and mattresses. Inspect all used furniture and mattresses for signs of bed bugs. Refer to Bedbugsinfo.ca for more information.Anyone holding a garage sale is legally responsible for ensuring that the items are safe and meet regulatory requirements, but it’s still important for buyers to take charge of becoming informed about the item they want to buy. Please note that Health Canada has banned the selling of babywalkers and lawn darts with elongated tips because they pose an unreasonable danger in their normal use. yummyrawfood:Lavender Tea Benefits have been known for a long time as being particularly beneficial to disorders involving the nervous system.Lavender is an aromatic, shrubby, multi-branched herbal plant with a stem reaching a height of about 6 to 24 inches. Purple-colored flowers typically grow on the woody stems, although there are varieties that have pink and white flowers. Lavender bears very narrow, gray green leaves.Lavender has been valued as a scented herb throughout the centuries. The fragrance of lavender is known to relax and soothe the mind and the body. Many perfumeries include the essential oil of lavender in formulating their products.
The lavender plant is native to North and East Africa, the Mediterranean, Southern Europe, India and Arabia, but is also now cultivated and grown in such places as theUnited States and Japan. Lavender grows best at sites that are dry, and are exposed to good sunlight. The beneficial constituents of lavender include flavonoids, tannins, courmarines, and essential oil containing camphor, geraniol and linalool. To make lavender tea, simply infuse a handful of dried lavender blossoms in a pot of boiling water. Let the tea steep for about 7 to 10 minutes. Then strain and enjoy. The following are the health benefits attributed to lavender tea:
- Lavender tea may help ease insomnia.
- Lavender tea may help calm nervousness and anxiety. It may also be used to alleviate stress and uplift flagging spirits.
- Lavender tea may help treat an upset stomach, as well as flatulence and colic. It may also be used to treat stomach and bowel infections.
- Lavender tea may help alleviate depressive and migraine headaches.
- Lavender tea, when applied topically, may help alleviate colds, cough, asthma, bronchitis and similar problems in the respiratory system.
- Lavender tea may help induce sweating and consequently reduce the bodytemperature during fever.
- Lavender tea, when applied topically, may help heal cuts, wounds, ulcers and sores.
- Lavender tea is also useful as a mouthwash to combat halitosis.
myjournalofhealth:Benefits of Grapefruit
Heart and Anti Inflammatory Benefits
Grapefruit is very rich in Vitamin C, a nutrient that has been shown to alleviate cold symptoms and improve immune function. In addition to being an immunity-booster, the Vitamin C found in grapefruit has also been proven to help with chronic inflammatory conditions like arthritis and asthma. Adding grapefruit to your diet also promotes heart health and helps to prevent death risk from stroke and heart disease by decreasing inflammation, blood clotting, and acting as an anti-oxidant. Antioxidants discourage decay and death at a cellular level by inhibiting the absorption of oxygen.
Cancer Fighting Benefits
Grapefruit contains limonoids, which are chemical compounds that are known to fight different types of cancers, and there are compounds in grapefruit pulp that can help prevent breast cancer. Tobacco smoke contains cancer-causing agents that are activated by certain enzyme activity; this is reduced by daily consumption of grapefruit juice, which is a powerful anti-oxidant, which helps lower the risks of colon and lung cancers. The primary defense mechanism of the body against cancer is DNA repair, a process which is aided by Naringenin, a flavonoid concentrated in grapefruit.
In addition to the many grapefruit benefits that are provided by consuming the actual flesh of the fruit, grapefruit seed extract has been proven as an excellent disinfectant because it effectively eliminates germs. It is one of the most effective antimicrobial agents to be discovered and also acts as a natural disinfectant. As it has virtually none of the toxicity of other cleaning products, it has already been put to use in some American hospitals. It can be used around the home for safely cleaning chopping boards, cooking utensils and even your toothbrush on occasion.
Non-Toxic Rome Remedy
Grapefruit seed extract is a safe, non-toxic remedy for a variety of different pesky conditions such as dandruff, warts, and corns. It works to eliminate head lice and mites when other products fail, and can even be used on pets for skin conditions such as mange, fleas or to treat certain infections. Grapefruit seed extract (GSE) can also be used against water and food borne illnesses such as diarrhea and dysentery when traveling, and in the garden as a bug spray or to remove mold and fungus. Grapefruit benefits the skin, too, as a topical anti-acne remedy and aromatherapy agent. (x) read more..

healthyhallelujah:Healthy Hallelujah’s Vegan Chickpea NuggetsThis is probably the strangest, yet most delicious healthy concoction I have ever put together. I really wasn’t expecting these babies to be so amazing! So basically, I am a broke college student, and I don’t want to spend money on dxtra groceries for my last week at school. So, I rummaged through my cupboards, got creative,
and found a few things to throw together. What you need:
1 16oz can of chickpeas
1 clove of garlic, chopped
1-2 tsp cumin powder
1-2 tsp olive oil
Panko Italian breadcrumbs (if vegan, make your own in a food process by processing dry bread with Italian seasonings) What you do:
1) Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Combine chickpeas, chopped garlic, cumin powder, and sea salt in a food processor. The final consistency shouldn’t be chunky, but thick. You don’t want to thin the “dough” out to hummus consistency.
2) Roll chickpea “dough” into little bite size balls and cover lightly with olive oil.
3) Flatten out the balls so that they are about half an inch thick, then pat both sides lightly onto the breadcrumbs.
4) Spray a cookie sheet with cooking spray or coat with the remainder of the olive oil. Place nuggets on the cookie sheet.
5) Bake in the oven for 10 minutes, flip, and bake for another 10 minutes. PERFECT CONSISTENCY, I tell you! PERFECT. I can’t believe I came up with this (and no, they are not just falafel.. they are nuggets, hehe). Enjoy! read more..

Every day, beginning with our first steps as a child, we walk. But do you know that for adults ages 18 to 64 it is recommended that you reach 10,000 steps per day? Ottawa Public Health (OPH) and the Ottawa Public Library (OPL) invite you to use a pedometer to track your steps! To mark the end of Physical Activity Month, OPH staff, Board of Health members Katherine Hobbs and Mathieu Fleury, and Councillors and OPL Board trustees Jan Harder and Shad Qadri are wearing pedometers all week. They will be tweeting their step counts and trying to reach the 10,000 a day goal. Follow #ottawawalks and #ottawamarche to see how they’re doing!Walking is a free, accessible and low impact form of physical activity that can be incorporated throughout the day. - Use the stairs instead of the elevator
- Take a lunch time walk
- Walk to the movies or local grocery store

yogadinosaur:I’m not entirely sure what I stand for anymore. I do believe firmly that all people deserve to have body peace and not hate themselves at any shape or size. Sometimes that really does seem impossible though, although there are a lot of blogs on tumblr who I admire because they seem capable of doing this.I also firmly believe you should be allowed to change yourself if there is something you don’t like; as long as this change will allow you to be a fully functioning, healthy person. There should be nothing wrong with it. It may even be beneficial to your psyche and health in general. People just need to know their limits and not take their methods to extremes. For instance, I am nowhere close to being underweight. I could lose serval pounds and still be very healthy and fully functioning. Losing weight might even increase my overall health. Should I avoid this because I must love my body and changing it means I don’t?No. It is that simple. I can still stride to accept every ounce of myself well trying to be the best possible version of Abi ever, and that’s okay.I agree with this completely. read more..

In other news, I decided to go through some new followers’ blogs and then clicked one blog link from one of those because of the scary url and… well, now I am sad because the urls are about starving themselves. I hope you all know that the abc diet, purging, starving… none of those things work. If you want real, lasting results, if you want to be happy with your body… a healthy lifestyle is 100% what you need. I mean, think about it. I know eating disorders are mental disorders and these things are tough, but plenty of people have beaten theirs and that doesn’t mean you (those of you with problems like this) can’t. What truly sounds more effective… not eating, throwing up the food, eating like a bird, and hurting your body… or eating healthy, whole foods that nourish your body and give it strength to be what it’s meant to be. Nature intended us to eat these foods. If you believe in any god(s), then you know he/she/them put these things here for a reason, and that reason is for us to eat them. Not that any of what I’m saying really matters. You may read it, you may not, but I hope you really read this and not just look at it and feel hopeless or in denial. I know some of you who follow me are struggling with ed’s and ed behavior, and if you ever need someone to talk to, to rant to, to come to for advice… I am here. I don’t just say that to be nice and even if you wrote to me every day telling me what happened, what you might have accomplished with getting better, your entire ed story, anything. It won’t bother or annoy me. If you want to tell me about the other girl you saw with the perfect body and how fat you think you are, talk to me. I know I don’t have any experience dealing with ed’s, but I can still try to help and I can direct you to people who have struggled with and have overcome their ed’s. If you truly do need help losing weight or having a leaner/more tuned figure, message me! I can and will help you. This sort of turned into a rant, but I’m serious. For dinner I went to this place called Martha Green’s and one side is a bakery type place (where I got a chocolate chip cookie) and then there’s the Sitting Room and it’s a little restaurant. It’s really neat. I got a Veggie wrap and asked for no mayo or cheese. Of course, like I do with everything, I took a photo of it (well, I took 2). I was looking at them earlier and noticed one of them, around the avocado, kind of looked a bit too creamy and lighter than the avocado. My first thought was…. I hope that was not mayo. I hate mayonnaise, I can not eat that disgusting stuff. It’s funny, because in 9th grade, a girl in my health class hated mayo and I was like WHAT. I used to just have mayo and bologna sandwiches. Gross, right? And now I hate it. Sometimes, even after shows, I’d feel really gross and greasy feeling (even though I wasn’t even oily or anything) and I explained it as feeling like I was slathered in mayo. So yeah. The point of this story…. There better not have been mayo on my veggie wrap. read more..

Dr. Levy has pledged to stop distracted driving along with 1600+ others who are also doing their part to make our roads safer – LeaveThePhoneAlone.ca is gaining momentum, will you pledge to do the same? I know exactly how you feel! I don’t go through unhealthy eating kicks, but I go through (and am right now) not exercising phases. So this is a bit tough to answer. When you don’t feel like working out or are starting to get into the bad phase, just try to work through it and do a work out anyway. Don’t buy any bad food. Just think about how crappy it makes you feel and how truly disgusting it is. Since I’m in a similar boat, I really can’t think of anything else.If anyone has any idea’s or recommendations, put it in my ask so others can see too! (: read more..
