I HAVE WIFI! I’m back yallllll! Now I can post a Photo from yesterdays grocery trip and answer questions that I’ve had sitting in my inbox for a week. I was also thinking of making a video tomorrow morning because I didn’t have wifi on my 1 year anniversary of my health blog and last night I was thinking about making a silly video in my garden and showing you my almond tree or something. Kind Bars-Larabar

hey :) i am from the uk and recovering from anorexia and i realllyyy wanted to try out lara and kind bars they look so yummy and a great way for me to build up my calories in a day... :) do you know if there is anywhere online i can purchess these bars from ? thanks :D xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hello (: Congrats on recovering! I’m happy for you! Maybe, hopefully, these websites will work for you! You can buy from The Better Health Store - Larabar or the larabarstore! They are in dollars here and I’m not sure if the larabar store has a UK based website so you don’t have to convert money, but probably not. If these websites do allow shipping to the UK, then the money should just automatically covert when you buy it. If not, just google “buy larabars online” or something along those lines (: If none of that works out, I’m sure they have something similar there that will work for you! read more..

Ibs

hey :) i have read that you have struggled with ibs, and i have too well i still am and it is awful :( what are the choices you made to change because the doctors are no help - i guess they dont really know what to do.... hope you can help me :) thanks xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hello! I would be glad to help. Sorry it’s taken a bit for me to get to this. After I first read this after you sent it (then I lost internet for a week), I had plans of starting a whole page dedicated to IBS and helping others with it. So keep a look out for that. I hope to get it up soon but I don’t want to spend a massive amount of time online like I used to. The first thing I did was start a food journal. Writing my meals down (and I wrote the time) and writing any problems I had after the meal help me to figure out what things caused me any pain or problems. Then I eliminated those things, for the most part. I’m also lactose intolerant so I had a lot of problems with dairy before I knew I was allergic to it. Don’t eat too much during meals, don’t eat a lot of ‘heavy’ foods during the morning and afternoon (I have my heavier meals during dinner), get plenty of fiber, avoid processed and junk foods, avoid carbonated drinks and I think caffeine, too. I drink tea, but coffee gives me problems as well. And definitely exercise. Exercise, especially core exercises, helped keep me regulated and keep the bloating down. Ibs effects us all differently so the foods I have problems with, you might not have such problems with. It takes time to figure it all out, but you get a closer hang of it. It’s definitely a struggle though. I also started taking probiotics, though I sometimes forget to, and they seem to help a bit. Also, I recommend not eating meat. As far as digestion goes, not eating meat helps with it a lot. A lot of people who stop eating meat say they don’t feel as constipated and they feel better in general. I hope this helps! read more..

Boil Water Advisory-Hot Water Heaters-Bottled Water-Boiled Water

How to Use Water Safely During a Boil Water Advisory

Ottawa Public Health (OPH) has issued a precautionary Boil Water Advisory until further notice for the water users serviced by the Carp communal well water system.Water users in the affected area are asked to bring their water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it for all consumption purposes, including drinking, making juice, ice and infant formula, as well as for use in food preparation. After boiling, the water should be left to cool before being used, or it should be placed in clean containers to cool in the refrigerator. Boiled water should be used when brushing teeth. Boiled water should also be used to rinse dishes after washing. Other non-consumption uses, such as showering, are safe. This advisory is issued as a precaution and will be lifted once OPH can confirm that the results of sample analyses show the absence of bacteria in the water from the distribution system. If you are unable to boil water, you should consume only bottled water. How to use water safely during a boil water advisory:

  • Boiled water should be used for drinking, making infant formula and juices, cooking, making ice, washing fruits and vegetables, and brushing teeth. The water should be brought to a rapid rolling boil and boiled for 1 minute. Discard all ice made previously and disinfect the ice cube trays. Make ice using boiled, cooled water.
  • Adults and teens may shower with untreated water as long as no water is swallowed. Older children could also be given a shower with a hand held showerhead, avoiding the face. Younger children should be sponge-bathed instead of bathing in a tub because they are likely to swallow tub water.
  • To disinfect hands, you can use alcohol-based hand disinfectants, containing more than 60% alcohol.
  • Washing dishes: If washing by hand, you can use boiled water for washing dishes or boiled water for rinsing washed dishes, or use the disinfecting solution described below. If your dishwasher has a hot setting, it safely disinfects dishes. If your dishwasher does not have a hot setting, after finishing the cycle, soak dishes for 1 minute in a solution of 1oz (30 ml) of bleach mixed with 3 gallons of lukewarm water (13.5 litres). Let dishes air dry.
  • Disinfecting after preparing/cooking with raw meat: Countertops, chopping boards or utensils which have come into contact with raw meat should be washed with soap and hot water first, then disinfected with a bleach solution stronger than that used for emergency hand disinfection. Mix 1/4 cup (about 60 ml) bleach in to 1 gallon (4.5 litres) water for this purpose. Do not reuse or store this solution, but make it fresh daily.
  • Filtered water should also be brought to a rolling boil for 1 minute before drinking or using it for cooking.
  • The water is not safe to use in wading pools. Water usually gets into the mouths of small children, providing a possibility for infection.
For more information on how to use water safely during a Boil Water Advisory, visit see the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care’s Fact Sheet When the boil water advisory is lifted, run cold water faucets for 1 minute before using the water. Run drinking fountains for 1 minute before using the water. Flush all garden hoses by running cold water through them for 1 minute. Run water softeners through a regeneration cycle. Drain and refill hot water heaters set below 45°C (normal setting is 60°C).Additional information is available at ottawa.ca, or by calling 3-1-1, or Ottawa Public Health at 613-580-6744.  You can also connect with Ottawa Public Health on Facebook and Twitter (@ottawahealth)

Medical Officer Of Health-Ottawa Public Library-Heat Exhaustion-City Of Ottawa-Heat Advisory

Heat Warning in effect for July 23

The Medical Officer of Health is issuing a Heat Warning for July 23, 2012. Humidex is forecast to exceed 40 today. It is important to know that extreme heat can cause dehydration, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and even death.Infants, young children and the homeless are also at greater risk from extreme heat, along with people taking medications such as for Parkinsons and antidepressants. OPH is encouraging people to check on family, friends and neighbours who may be isolated or vulnerable to the heat and need help accessing places to cool down.Water users of the Carp communal well system are reminded that the City has issued a water advisory. The City is distributing bottled water at the Carp Fairgrounds to those affected by this advisory. To avoid heat-related illnesses, residents and visitors should:

  • Drink plenty of fluids, preferably water and avoid caffeine and alcohol
  • Avoid strenuous physical activity outdoors
  • Avoid direct exposure to the sun and seek shade and shelter at the first signs of heat exposure
  • Wear lightweight and loose clothing
  • Spend at least two hours a day in an air-conditioned location, including shopping malls, local libraries or neighbourhood community centres
  • Never leave children, the elderly or pets unattended in a car, even with the windows partly rolled down
Residents can cool down at City of Ottawa pools, splash pads, wading pools, beaches and community centres, as well as Ottawa Public Library branches. In addition, Rainbow Cinemas in the St. Laurent Centre has partnered with the City of Ottawa to provide reduced ticket rates to help people access air conditioning and to cool down during heat warnings.High air pollution and UV index levels often occur during hot weather conditions.
  • People with breathing and heart problems and parents and caregivers of children should pay attention to the hourly Air Quality Health Index available at airhealth.ca or at 1-866-688-3810.
  • Check the forecasted UV index daily at theweathernetwork.com, local newspaper, television or radio. Choose a sunscreen and lip balm with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher.
As part of the City of Ottawa Heat Action Plan, Ottawa Public Health (OPH) closely monitors the weather forecast for heat, smog and UV index levels and notifies residents, service providers and media when heat thresholds are met. We offer protective and proactive advice on how to deal with these summer conditions. The smog and heat thresholds are:
  • Heat Advisory (humidex of 36 or more for a least two consecutive days)
  • Heat Warning (humidex of 40 or more for at least two consecutive days)
  • Heat Emergency (humidex of 45 or more for at least two consecutive days or situational factors)
  • Smog Advisory (based on air quality index (AQI) of > 50)
  • UV Index Warning ( UV index of 10 or higher)
For additional information on ways to beat the heat, visit ottawa.ca/health or call Ottawa Public Health Information at 613-580-6744. Connect with us on Facebook and Twitter (@ottawahealth). read more..

eating-healthy-rocks:I love Taco Bell, like mid day craving love it. Their Crunchwrap Supreme (second pic) is my all time favorite, but with 560 calories, 24g of fat, and over 1400mg sodium, it is just NOT on my good food list. THEN! I came across this! (the first pic). It is a Crunchwrap with only 210 calories, less than 5g of fat, and 25g or protein! Needless to say, I will be trying this! Here’s How!
1 La Tortilla Factory Whole Wheat Low-Carb/Low-Fat Tortilla; Large**
3 baked corn tortilla chips (like Guiltless Gourmet’s Yellow Corn Tortilla Chips)
1/3 cup frozen ground-beef-style soy crumbles (like Boca Ground Burger orMorningstar Farms Meal Starters Grillers Recipe Crumbles)
1/4 cup shredded fat-free cheddar cheese
1/4 cup shredded lettuce
1/3 tomato, diced
1 tbsp. fat-free sour cream
1/2 tsp. taco seasoning
Combine frozen soy crumbles, cheese and taco seasoning in a small microwave-safe bowl. Heat in microwave for 30 seconds. Warm tortilla for a few seconds in the microwave (making it easier to fold without ripping), and then lay it out on a flat surface. Place the soy crumble mixture in the center of the tortilla. Flatten the mixture into a circle, keeping it about 2 inches from the edge of the tortilla. Next, layer the tortilla chips on top of the soy crumble mixture. Evenly top with sour cream, lettuce and then tomato.FOLDING INSTRUCTIONS: Starting at the bottom of the tortilla, fold edge up to the center of the tortilla. Then going around the edge of the tortilla, repeatedly fold overlapping sections to meet the center, for a total of about 6 folds (until filling is completely enclosed). In a pan sprayed with nonstick spray, over medium heat, carefully place the folded tortilla in the center of the pan (folded side down). Heat for 3 - 4 minutes. Carefully flip the wrap with a spatula and heat for another 30 seconds. Enjoy! MAKES 1 SERVINGServing Size: 1 Crunchtastic Supreme (entire recipe)

This year was the 30th anniversary of an event that is all about giving back to the community by raising funds for charities in and around Ottawa. Attendees enjoyed a fantastic day of volleyball and live music all the while contributing to a great cause on this smoke-free site. Ottawa’s new smoke-free regulations now prohibits smoking on beaches such as Mooney’s Bay, in addition to parks, playgrounds, sports fields, ByWard and Parkdale Market stands and outdoor restaurant and bar patios and terraces. As of July 2nd, people smoking on these properties will be subject to receiving a ticket.  Here is what a few festival participants had to say about the HOPE event and beaches being smoke-free: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=io5zDW_0ihI To learn more about Ottawa’s new smoke-free regulations, or if you need help quitting smoking, please visit ottawa.ca/smokefree or call Ottawa Public Health Information 613-580-6744 (TTY: 613-580-9656). Willpower-Ice Cream-Foods

Willpower Whoomp Wahhhhs: How To Avoid Them Without Driving Yourself NUTS

healthylivingforyou:fitvillains:You might hear a lot about willpower, and some of you might believe that your ability (or inability) to stay away from bad food choices depends solely on how strong (or weak) your willpower is.That, my friends, is bullshit. While it’s true that some of us have more discipline than others, we are not superheroes. We are not buddhist monks. We are not masochists. Well, maybe some of you. But most of us are just people. And people are fallible. Real. We shouldn’t be expected to be on guard 24 hours a day without cracking at least a few times. And we shouldn’t feel badly about ourselves for doing so. I’ve learned how to resist bad foods in short spurts. I can opt for the salad, instead of the fries most days. I can buy an apple instead of a chocolate bar. I know that when I’m tired, my cravings can take over, so I fill myself up with healthy on-the-go foods so I won’t cave in. But at 11pm, when my body wants something sweet, you best be padlocking the freezer if there’s ice cream in there. It’s not just ice cream though. Bagels, butter, bacon, chocolate, chips etc. If those items are in my house, I will eat them. In fact, if they are there, they’re all I want to eat. My shiny apples look like crap next to them sometimes. That refreshing salad doesn’t feel nearly as right of a choice as it did when I made it. So I eat them. And eat them. Most ‘bad’ items don’t make it past a few days in my pantry: items, that if eaten in moderation should last me weeks. So how do I stay away from processed, sugary, high calorie, low nutrition foods?I keep them the hell away from my kitchen! My secret is not willpower. It’s knowing myself and preparing myself. I don’t do well in environments where I have to deny myself: where I have to constantly choose healthy over unhealthy in the spur of the moment. I have limited amounts of willpower and it saps my energy. I do better when the ONLY choice is a healthy choice. Studies show that putting ourselves in a cycle where we ‘feel’ deprived (where we feel as though we can’t have what’s within reach) is likely to lead to failure. We only have a certain amount of energy we can spend feeling deprived and having to make decisions. After that, we tend to go crazy, eating everything in sight. And, if you’re like most people, you feel guilty after. When you feel guilty, you feel off track. When you’re off track, it feels like your efforts have been in vain. When those efforts don’t ‘count’, eating those foods doesn’t feel so bad. You feel as though you’ve already failed, so what’s the harm in a complete sabotage?Sound familiar? We put too much pressure on ourselves to be perfect. We need to make life easier on ourselves instead.Read MoreREAD THIS. It’s fantastic. read more..

Whole Foods-Junk Food

Hey just wondering if you'd have any advice for me? i have trouble eating healthy, like i want to but i can resist the junk food, and no matter how many times i try not to eat it i just cant stay away from it and im starting to gain wait :( help please?

When you try to avoid it, do you avoid it completely or are you just trying to eat less? Ask yourself that. Make sure that you aren’t trying to cut it cold, because that can be really hard and then you will have a harder time avoiding it. Try to focus on eating healthy foods, and eating less junk. Try to eat more whole foods, eat your favorite fruits and veggies more often, and that will naturally help ease you into it. And you can still buy the junkier foods that you like/crave, but portion it out and eat it in moderation. Two or three times a week if you can. But the healthier you eat, and the less junk you eat, no matter how much or little, it will improve over time. After a month you will be more used to it all. You might be able to cut eating most of your cravings completely at one point, and then after a while you won’t even crave them. Like… one day I decided to eat a small bag of dorito’s and I crave them more now because I ate some. So just try your hardest to avoid these things. I sometimes eat a banana when I crave something and it helps. Maybe you will find a food like that as well! Also, try to make really tasty healthy food. Like, don’t just eat salad and things like that. Salads get boring. Get creative! Good luck (: I know you can do it. If I can, if others can, so can you. read more..

Caffeine In Coffee-Coffee Drinkers-Cup Of Coffee-Oolong Tea

The 101 on Coffee and Tea

thefitty:

Why Coffee & Tea Are Amazing for You

There’s nothing like a hot Cup Of Coffee or tea to start the day. Some may go as far as to say they can’t function without their daily dose of caffeine! While some studies celebrate these beverages, others claim they’re bad for us. So should you toss your favorite drink or ignore the naysayers? Let’s find out.

Coffee vs. Tea

There are 80-185 milligrams of caffeine per cup of coffee versus 15-70 mg of caffeine per cup in tea. Coffee comes from the berries of an evergreen plant and tea comes from a variety of plant leaves. But how much do we actually drink? 52 percent (or 100 million) American adults drink coffee daily. The average coffee drinker has 3.1 cups per day, or 70 gallons a year, enough to fill a bathtub. 30 percent of coffee drinkers enjoy specialty drinks like lattes and cappuccinos.274 million pounds of tea were imported in 2010, the same as a large cruise ship. The average American drinks 155 cups of tea annually, or 10 gallons a year. 78 percent of tea consumed globally is black, which is preferred by North Americans. 20 percent is green and 2 percent is oolong.

Health Benefits of Tea

There are so many different types of tea that you’ve probably heard some are good for you and some aren’t. Studies on rat fat cells shot that brewed tea of any kind increases insulin activity by up to 15 times. Green tea is full of antioxidants that may help prevent many forms of cancer, including breast, lunch, and stomach. Green tea may also help prevent arterial clogging and reduce the risk of stroke. Green tea might also reduce neurological damage due to oxidation, which in turn prevents Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. It can burn fat and improve cholesterol levels.Ninety percent of tea consumed in the U.S. is black. It is made from fermented leaves and is the highest in caffeine. Due to the fermentation process, black tea is lowest in monomeric catechins, which have been linked to cancer prevention. This tea may protect you from have a stroke or developing heart disease by helping blood vessels dilate correctly. It has also been linked to preventing lung damage from smoking.White tea is unfermented and made from young buds and leaves. It offers the most powerful antioxidants of all the teas.Oolong tea has many different forms, which is fermented and may prevent weight gain and promote weight loss. It may also help to prevent tooth decay.

Health Benefits of Coffee

Chances are, you’ve heard ideas like coffee will stunt your growth or give you heart disease or stomach cancer, but fortunately, none of these are true. In fact, it can actually be good for you. Coffee has been linked to improved memory recall. It may also help prevent Alzheimer’s, heart disease, gout, type 2 diabetes, and Parkinson’s.The caffeine in coffee can help ease asthma attacks. Coffee drinkers are 50 percent less likely to get liver cancer than those who avoid the beverage, though the exact reason has not been pinpointed. It may also lower the risk of breast, rectal, and colon cancers. Caffeine can increase energy expenditure (calorie burning). One study showed that those drinking caffeinated liquids burned 67 calories more than those who drank water, the equivalent of a medium-sized apple.

Too Much Caffeine?

While a little caffeine can be good for you and help keep you awake, too much isn’t a good idea. It may cause restlessness, insomnia, and anxiety. Experts recommend limiting your daily caffeine intake to 400 mg for men and 300 mg for women. That’s roughly 4 cups of coffee/6 cups of tea for men and 3 cups of coffee/4 cups of tea for women.Caffeine provides many healthy benefits, too. It helps increase endurance during workouts and may blunt pain and tiredness, letting you work out longer. It may enhance muscular contractions during exercise. As with any health advice, people should drink coffee and tea in moderation, as too much of a good thing can be…well, dan read more..

Protein Intake-Protein Powder-Peanut Butter-Vegan Diet-Grams

I just have a quick question, do you make sure you get a lot of protein each day? And from what, just because I always have trouble with getting enough because I have vegan diet. If you could even give me an example of a balanced day, with meals, that would be so helpful! Thank-you :)

I pay closer attention to my protein intake when I work out but for the most part, I don’t pay super close attention. I used to pay a lot of close attention to it so now I don’t have to as much. Sometimes the little things add up. I pay more attention to iron, and making sure to consume it with vitamin C.     When I eat cereal I eat maybe 2 cups (raisin bran) and there’s 8 grams of protein there, plus the milk so 10 grams. In veggie meats, like Boca, there’s between 10-13 or so grams of protein,  beans (I don’t eat those as much because of my ibs), nuts have a lot of protein (I used to eat a lot of that), 2 tablespoons of Peanut Butter has about 8 grams, the bread that I have now has 2 grams of protein per 2 slice) but Oroweat whole grain oatnut bread has  8 grams, 3 oz of extra firm tofu has 7 grams. Quinoa has a lot of protein. I’m going through my myfitnesspal from earlier this year and 14oz of the quinoa pasta shells has 28 grams of protein (and 1,435 calories so I assume I’m the only one who eats that much haha). 5 slices of tofurkey (Turtle Island Foods, Inc.) has 13 grams of protein per 5 slices. If you’re worried about your protein intake and have $20-40 to spare, you could pick up some vegan protein powder from a health food store. I also eat Gardein veggie ‘meats’ but have none at home right now so not sure how much protein that has. I’m not sure if you’re into eating veggie ‘meats’ so that might not be much help. You might be able to find some vegan bars like that, I haven’t looked for them so I haven’t a clue what some are.     I just got all of that from stuff that I have now, stuff I’ve eaten, and stuff from my myfitnesspal. Of course there are plenty more things with lots of protein.     Let’s see… with meals (oh gosh this post is long). Let’s say you eat a tofurkey sandwich on the Oroweat, with 5 slices of tofurkey, some tomato and spinach (there’s not much protein there so let’s leave that at 0), 1/4an avocado (that’s about 1 gram because I think half was 2 grams according to myfitnesspal), that’d be about 22 grams of protein for one meal. A peanut butter sandwich with 4 table spoons of peanut butter (16) and oroweat would be 24 grams. I hope this is a bit helpful! size10plz:allyfit:hotashellthy:fitnessfoodfabulous:As a fitblr I often see people talking about egg whites and how great they are and how bad egg yolks are. NO. It breaks my heart to think of all the nutrients of the egg yolk being discarded into eggy heaven. Egg yolks are good! Nutrients in a yolk: Egg yolks are jam packed with fat soluble nutrients these include: Vitamins A, D, E, K and carotenoids. These help you boost your immune system, keep your bones, teeth, and skin healthy, reduce the effects of diabetes, and help you reduce the risk of cancer. Also: Yolks have loads of Zinc, Calcium, Folate and vitamin B12. All of which are super important for you. But, but, but eggs are full of cholesterol! Yes, but you need this cholesterol! Cholesterol is needed in the body as it is the building block of hormones, also cholesterol helps repair damaged cells in the body. Cholesterol that comes from processed, super fatty food is bad for you, so don’t go out and eat tons of fried food. When it comes from this incredible egg it is not! Additionally: Eating only egg whites can cause a biotin deficiency, biotin is the vitamin that gives us strong nails and beautiful hair! In conclusion: EAT THE WHOLE EGG. It is only 70 calories for one XL egg. It is amazing for you. Tastes great. Now I am not saying go make yourself 20 eggs to make up for your lack of yolky days, but do not be afraid to incorporate into your diet.
YESSSSSS, thank you thank you thank you!!  everything in moderation, right? sooo when you make breakfast, have 3 eggs with 1 yolk and get your nutrients :)THISI don’t/can’t eat eggs so this is for all of you who do! read more..

Child Passenger Safety-Car Seat Inspection-Car Seat Safety-Child Car Seat-Car Seats

Car seat safety- is your child properly secured?

Ottawa Public Health (OPH) and its partners are working together to improve car seat safety for children in Ottawa. Every year, staff from OPH and the Ottawa Police Services conduct roadside car seat checks throughout the city. In 2011, these roadside checks revealed that, two out of every three children were not properly secured in their car seat. This is concerning because car crashes are the number one cause of death for children in Canada and one of the leading causes of injury in Ottawa. When children are properly fitted in a car seat, the risk of death or serious injury goes down by almost 75 per cent. It is the law for drivers to make sure that their child is properly secured in a car seat, booster seat or seatbelt. This year, OPH launched the A1 Secure campaign with the goal of giving parents and caregivers access to more car seat inspection clinics as well as practical and easy to remember information on how to properly secure children in car seats. With the help of S.E.A.T.S. for Kids Canada, a local organization that offers free car seat inspection clinics, the number of car seat inspection clinics has doubled. Please follow these three quick steps to make sure your child passenger is secured.Step 1:Armpit level for harness chest clip.Step 2:1 Finger space only between harness straps and the child’s chest. Step 3:Secure child car seat to vehicle according to thechild car seat user guide. For more information on child passenger safety and child car seat installation videos visit www.a1secure.ca To find out where to go to have your child’s car seat inspected visit www.seatsforkidscanada.com or call Ottawa Public Health Information at 613-580-6744 read more..

So you guys I have exciting news. Actually, I think I already told you that I got my license but the exciting part is that I can go to the gym whenever I want (when the car is here) and don’t have to rely on my mom to pick me up. I like to work out at night and she goes to bed around 8-9pm so now I can go while she’s asleep. Weewwwww. I need to get used to the gym quick so I don’t look like such a fool trying to pick a machine, and trying to figure out how it works lql. And I don’t think I told you guys that I’m moving (again) to a nicer area close to where I lived a bit over a year ago before moving here. The neighborhood is quiet and nice and there is cats everywhere (weeeee I LOVE cats) and I’m going to start roller blading again and probably not skateboarding again because I was never that great and won’t want to do that alone. But I will be buying a bike and will ride it around a lot. Since it’s such a nice area and it’s summer I’m going to try to go to bed early and get up earlier so I can go do these things early before it’s too hot. And I’ll spend a lot of time gardening and tending to the plans and doing yoga outside (because I’ll actually have a nice and more private yard) and I can do all of my reading outside in between the trees. I’ll take photos when I move there if anyone wants to see but I am excited about that. The escrow stuff should be done within a few days and we’ll be moving in a few weeks so I’ve got to really start packing. I only have one box of movies and books packed but I bought 6 books recently so those need to go somewhere, too haha. But yeah I’ll have lotsa activities to doooo!I should go do something productive, like pack I guess. If anyone wants to chit chat feel free to message me! Or you can add me on facebook I suppose, I am friends with internet friends on there. Just let me know if you add me, my link is in my personal blog and the link to that… I think it shows my icon in front of my icon so yeah. read more..

Fact or Fiction: Cold or Hot Dogs?

Is it Fact or is it Fiction: It is safe to eat hot dogs cold right out of the package. The answer: FICTION - Hot dogs can contain Listeria monocytogenes, a harmful bacterium that can grow at refrigeration temperatures and is common to hot dogs and their juices.  Hot dogs must be thoroughly cooked to 74°C/165°F to ensure that all bacteria present are killed. For more information on safe cooking practices, visit ottawa.ca/health and follow us on Twitter.
